5 Key Resources to Find an Energy Job

April 2, 2011

I’ve talked about where the energy efficiency jobs are, what hiring managers do not want to hear, and what recruiters are begging to see. Now I want to share 5 key resources to actually find a cool energy efficiency gig.

Energy Central Jobs
Energy Central is a gold mine for energy nerds. It’s got industry news out the wazoo and job listings for almost any career pathy- energy management, engineering, operations, marketing, HR, legal, you name it.

American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy is a great organization. They’re the leading US research organization on energy efficiency and they’re a non-profit to boot. They post a lot of internal positions and even more external positions here.

Energy Jobs Network
Energy Jobs Network is a pretty typical job board for positions available in utility, renewable, consulting, and government jobs.

Industry Blogs
They will tell you about all the breaking news going on the field. This includes news about companies that just won new contracts and new contracts typically mean new offices and new positions opening. If you visit the Employers tab of my blog here, you’ll see a very incomplete – but growing – list of companies in the business that you can follow, too. I would suggest Energy Central as a great place to start.

Industry Mentor

Do some LinkedIn searches and make some connections to people in the industry. Ask them if they can keep you in mind if they hear about opportunities. More often than not, people will be happy to help.
